About Ruth
Ruth BatikRuth Batik is a lifelong traveler--she took her first interstate trip at the tender age of three weeks old, and has been hitting the road ever since. Every summer, her family took a long camping trip; by the time she left home at 17, she had visited each state in the continental U.S. Her parents taught her that limited means don't mean limited possibilities.

On her own, Ruth has studied in Austria, worked in Ireland, and visited various other countries. She and her husband, Andy Fitzgerald, met and married after Ruth completed the Odyssey. They share a love of travel and are always itching to ramble.

Her Roots
Ruth on the Road with Parents - Circa 1961Born and raised in rural Western Pennsylvania, Ruth spent almost 20 years in Washington, DC. The DC years were priceless, but the Odyssey took her back to her roots. She and Andy (a native of Maine) now live in rural Central Virginia, and are happily settling into country life in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Her 'Journey'
Ruth Batik on the Road - 2002Ruth has been a waitress, a secretary, a conference planner, an office manager, a freelance writer, and a magazine editor. Writing was her childhood dream, but for too long she thought she really didn't have anything to say.

She finally found her "voice," and says it feels good to know what she wants to be when she grows up!
